RESOURCES FOR CAREER AND LIFE

The following is notes and tips I've applied recently in my successful job search. Mindset via Podcast In 2013 I was lacking in a social life and had trouble adapting to a new country and new dynamic as a father. I simply went onto iTunes top ten podcast and stumbled upon the School of Greatness by Lewis Howes and The One You Feed. These two podcast substituted for my lack of community, and provided refined mindset and positivity to keep a sustainable attitude. If you are the average of your 5 closest friends, you can also mold your mindset to be the average of the 5 podcast you listened to. The people in my group may repeat themselves and keep it cheery, but who wants a Chicken Little. Trust me I’ve worked with a Chicken Little,   once that’s shit is airborn it changes direction and comes your way, and that’s an itch you don’t want to scratch. Standout 2.0 I picked this up at Dubai airport on a lark, and this book had a great impact on my growth. There was a colleagu...

What to do when your car breaks down…(blogpost under construction)

I had a moment, where the job had taken over, the family was good but my relationship was half what it could be. I was a hamster on a wheel, exhausted, putting out fires and thankfully New Years came. Trust me, it was a disaster of an evening, but 2015 had to be different. It may not apply to all, but this is the prescription I would give someone when they are stuck on the side of the road.

Imagine a pyramid, we start at the base and work upwards.

BASE : Meditation, this is a cliché. Have you meditated for 1 minute. Forget 10 minutes a day. Start with whatever baby step you want, I want this to be achievable. Headspace is the lowest hanging fruit, thanks Boltz, simply you can start out with a free 10 session trial, letting you meditate for 10 minutes a day. Meditation helps me clear up the traffic in my head, the congestion, the noise, the dizzying speed of the world. Meditation helps me come out The One Thing style, and focus on things, important things. As the same time I would implement your own version of GTD, rather than just writing out checklist, write out checklist and identify what you have to do next to complete that task, and if you can do it 2 mins or less, buckle up and knock it out. GTD is also effective cause you want to purge Everything out of your head. Not just a to do list, but make a list for when you go shopping, make a list of sites to visit when you hit mid day and need a break. As David Allen says your head is for having ideas not for holding them. As you dump things out of your head via GTD and continually scrub it clean with Meditation, you will feel better. Additionally, this can help Depressed / Anxious people. Mindfulness is also effective for activating the Parasympathetic system. As you become more mindful (10% happier / ferriss), and actually have a clear idea what needs to be done, when you lay in bed don’t think in the past or the future, if you stuggle to sleep think about your body occupying the bed, think about your breathing, as you become present you will transition into sleep.

The twelve busyness sins, how we complicate our lives.

I may not have the answers, but I have examples, living breathing lessons, some hard some easy, prescriptions from one man’s perspective of what was healthy for me at the time to help me grow and advance. This may get preachy, apologies, I literally came up with this on Christmas Eve. 1.      Don’t compare yourself to others: Your strengths might and should differ from others on the surface. "Adversity is an advantage". Others may struggle with their own inner demons and put on a brave face, they may excel and shine early, but life is a long windy road, and people can get trapped in comfy just as easily as they can continue to advance. 2.      Don’t skip lunch, forego your holiday or break the Sabbath: Society has built in precious time for rejuvenation, don’t give it back. Unplug your phone, connect with your family, read a book, or write down thoughts that linger in your head. This time is now yours, its reserved for your creative ...

Inspirational people with one good idea.

I loke the Scott Galloway quote, "When a luncheon speaker mentioes to follow your passion, they are already rich". I find this true. There are many inspirational people with one good idea. But this is buried in the myriad of content creations , podcast, ebooks. I like to think that if you want a different life, first map out what that would be. How close are you to achieving this (perfect day Craig ballyne), funny how Ferriss mentions this in his MUSE workshop, and his number for a crazy life is around 75k, also the rough tip for happiness beyond this is diminishing returns. If you want a different life, are you in the wrong company, check on linkedin the average length of an employee there. If you are close to the cut off, ask yourself how much more can I grow at this company. Trust me, this threshold will sneak up on you. If you want to tap into passion, possibly a side hustle listen to Chris gialliabe, Side Hustle nation, his podast will trigger idea a...
